The Day Nothing Happened: A Gentle New Story About Little Good Things

Chloe and Button in The Day Nothing Happened

Today we are very happy to share The Day Nothing Happened, the ninth story in A Little Big World.

This new story follows Button as she wakes with the feeling that something important must surely be about to happen. She hurries from window to hallway to front door, ready for a surprise, an outing, or a big moment to begin. But the house stays quiet. No one arrives. Nothing dramatic unfolds.

Beside her, Chloe does what Chloe does so well. She notices the warmth on the floor, the birds outside, the soft drifting light, and the comfort of being still. Slowly, Button begins to notice those things too.

By the end of the day, there has been no grand adventure at all. And yet the day has still held birdsong by the fence, lunch in the kitchen, a dancing leaf in the yard, and a sleepy nap beside Chloe. Nothing big had happened. Still, the day was full of little good things.

A story about quiet days and everyday moments

The Day Nothing Happened is a gentle reminder that not every meaningful day has to be a busy one.

So much of childhood can feel full of movement, noise, plans, and excitement. This story makes room for something softer. It honours the small moments that can easily be overlooked: a warm patch of sun, a quiet house, a familiar friend nearby, and the simple comfort of noticing what is already there.

For children, we hope this story feels calm, reassuring, and easy to settle into. For parents and carers, we hope it offers a lovely little reminder too: that ordinary days are not empty days. Sometimes they are the days that leave the warmest feeling behind.

One of the things we love most about this story is how naturally it reflects Button and Chloe’s different personalities.

Button is full of hope, movement, curiosity, and anticipation. She feels sure something exciting must be just around the corner. Chloe, meanwhile, is steady and observant. She does not rush the day. She lets it unfold.

That contrast gives the story its heart. Button brings energy. Chloe brings calm. Together, they gently arrive at the same understanding: this quiet day is nice too.

The Day Nothing Happened is now available in the app as part of our growing collection of gentle illustrated stories for children.

If you have been following A Little Big World already, we hope this new release feels like another warm little moment with Button and Chloe.
